By the time you read this, I will be back in Sicily. This time I’m staying 18 days and really hoping to get some work done on the house. First, however, we need to get hot water - and - we need a mattress. Once those things are in place, we can stay there. Then we need a stove. We already have a refrigerator - un frigorifero - as you may remember from this post: Refrigerator Joy.
It is Italy, however, and things move slowly. Buying a mattress is one thing - providing they are in stock - but establishing an account for propane and then having it delivered … that could take a while.
Meanwhile, I was delighted to discover I’m just in time for the spaghetti harvest. Who knew?
A presto!
More soon. :)
I think it is tremendous that the BBC documented this little known vernacular harvesting practice. You are fortunate to be there to experience this seasonal ritual.
Wow. There is so much to learn about the world. I do know that if one plants Cheerios in the spring after all danger of frost is passed, by mid July the doughnut plants will be in peak production, and nothing tastes better than a freshly picked chocolate donut with sprinkles.
