Masseria: a house where the farmers live and take care of animals and corn, olives, zucchinis, eggplants, peperoncino, and so on.

AGRITURISMO, not AgritOUrismo: it's better to start improving Italian asap.

Jan, How great! I enjoy your ability to paint with your writing, I am suddenly aware of what you are seeing. In pilot jargon, it’s SA. (Situational Awareness), with your perception of beauty and your appreciation of the work before you. I doubt I’ll be able to come visit (age), but Missy can’t wait for when the time is right! Phil

In Italy, any house is holy. Any house is a child to take care of. So you can trust that those taking care of it while u r away will do their best to make it your HOME. If u can choose, choose old people.

Jan! I am so so so happy for you! Che casa bellissima! I totally get the lure of the history (having bought a house that's part of a 15th-century convent), and clearly this house speaks to your soul. And that the station name is still there, well, that just seals the deal! It does sound like there's plenty of light after all. One thing to consider (when the time comes) is to put solar panels on the property if there's room, instead of on the roof. I see that done fairly often. Enzo sounds like an absolute gem, and all things considered, this seems like it was meant to be. So benvenuta in Italia! I'm eager to get back to Sicily and haven't been to the south coast, so sometime when you're there, let me know and I'll bop down if I can. I'd love to see the place, finished or not. Have fun fixing it up!

Hallelujah! So very happy for you Jan. This is truly a wonderful thing. I am so excited that I haven't even read your post yet, but can't wait to fill in the details in my mind. Living abroad is HEAVEN and is so good for our souls as we move through our lives. More later. Love to you.

Congratulations! And I felt every bit of this piece! Four years ago, we moved into a 1930s bungalow in a rural area. People thought we were nuts. I started a Facebook page and website called "Why Woodville?" as a response to those who told us there was nothing good here. When you find home, you just know. We love it here.

An adventure to be sure. You are blessed to have Enzo and knowing you I'm sure he will find you to be a blessing also. Can you put solar panels a ground structure instead of the roof.

Truly happy for you! Now I feel compelled to chat with you re: considering how to possibly save my dad’s home place near Macaye France , in the Basque region of Lapurdi/Labourde!
