January is a month of reflection, more than a month of action. Before we can move forward into the new, it helps to look back. Including some of 2021's most popular posts.
The question of how much to expose yourself in writing is a perennial. You're navigating it well, I think. I feel connection to you because of emotions we have both felt. I guess that's the idea, isn't it?
Thanks for another great piece, Jan. The line I will take with me is “… his two faces see the confusion from whence he came and the possibility of what is to come.”That it is possible to occupy both these states. I know I will be doing so for a while. And yes, your writing Is helpful! It plants seeds from which more conversations spring. And we need that more than ever — to be in conversation with one another. Especially with those we’ve never met. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and thank you for sharing bravely of yourself!
I'm in the middle of my own reflection too and this post is particularly useful for my January writing.
Connecting with readers is always a challenge but a welcome one. Reading and sharing insights with you over the past year has been refreshing; and that's the whole point.
On this January 6 I'm getting a weird sense of déjà vu, and this picture of Janus personifies it.
As far as opening up, you can tell I usually prefer the safety of the mask of humor, although I do have a tendency to be more candid than I realize, if that makes any sense.

I agree with Don. You articulated what so many writers feel about how "real" to be with their readers and went for it. Very courageous. Thank you.
Ahh... The mirror image: Jan-Us ;)

BTW, cool mirror picture.
