Inshallah, if God wills, I am writing to you from Italy: the land I fell in love with at the beginning of Covid-19. This time, I bring a piece of home with me.
I have always loved the term Inshallah! So gracious and humble. For me, it’s less about God/Higher Power than an acknowledgement that we are not in control, much less in charge. And we humans do have a way of deluding ourselves on that score.
Loved your ode to Tom, whom I have yet to meet 😕 and who is clearly an outstanding human being and the kind of friend/family everyone should have.
Indeed Claudia, I agree. The key very simply is remembering that we humans are not omnipotent. Even the best laid plans go astray. The world does not revolve around me.
Ok. You know u can count on me once in Rome. Naples is a sort of living miracle. Please, please, please, go to ATTANASIO very near the train station and eat FROLLE and be ready to touch paradise. Don't forget to admire the CRISTO Velato and walk trough via dei tribunali. Near the cattedrale di San Gennaro you find the CONFRATERNITA DELLA MISERICORDIA with a Caravaggio painting: under that painting my daughter has been battezzata. Naples is bellissima. Sicily is even better and I can give u all the advise u need of. Just one more thing: please do NOT eat Cappuccino at lunch, dinner or afternoon. Cappuccino must be eaten only for breakfast, early in the morning. By the way: in Naples drink a coffe by SCATURCHIO where you can seat (there is a square there) and try also 1 Babbà. Wherever you are, do not eat icecreams that appear very high in their laying box as it means that they are made of chemicals. Not to mention that in Italy ice creams are typically eaten in summer. Anyway, once in Rome I will take you 2 to a very good ice-cream
This sounds heavenly. You are the second person I've heard of who got "stuck" in Italy in March 2020. Haven't been since 1995 so I'm enjoying your trip vicariously.
Gonzaga???? Boooooooo. :) Enjoy the trip!!!!
aawww... did they already beat your team?? lol!
Thank you, Kent! I am so glad to be back!
Yes, they did. So I hate them. :)
Back? I thought you just got there!!!!
lol. fair enough. and the season isn't over yet! (back to Italy, silly!)
Enjoy your time there. Eat something in my honor. My birth name was Pucci, so I have to have some Italian blood in here somewhere.

Jan, love this update of your trip. Amazing that it’s been 2 years since you journeyed there at the start of COVID.
You are truly enjoying life-so good you have this connection with Tom.
Enjoy Rome and all the other great historical sites on this trip.
Will be going to FL soon to see my sister. Take care and stay well.
Love our connection and you!
Enjoy life - it’s a gift! Pat
Thank you, Pat!! And yes, every day is a gift. xo
Just the thought of traveling to Italy--you, me, anyone!--makes me happy! Have fun, Jan!! And oh yeah, Go Zags! (daughter will graduate in May) ;)
Thanks, Elizabeth. Go Zags! :)
Beautiful. I’m late reading this so I can’t wait to continue with your next post…
