I would absolutely take Giuseppe’s advice on this one. I lived in Florida for a long time and know quite well what moisture can do and how hard it can be to fix.

I would NOT buy this house. Not ever, not even if I was given it free. I don’t think the damp and mold will ever go, and I suspect a host of other problems will surface later.

You are a romantic, which tends to gloss over drawbacks. Moisture problems like that are a terrible deal breaker. Find a balcony, beautiful tile and a location in a better structure.

Definitely take Giuseppe's advice. I have a friend in Penne, Abruzzo who has damage from the neighboring house. She has a long legal problem to deal with it. And the owners are not a dozen distant heirs. You will find something else.
