We moved to a small town four years ago, and we have challenged ourselves to welcome the interruptions. So we answer the door, even when we don’t feel like it. These encounters normally are bright spots we didn’t know we needed.

I also worked for the Census--August/September 2020 in the worst heat and humidity. I met so many wonderful people!

My dog goes absolutely ballistic when someone comes to the door, so it’s super annoying to me. I have a no soliciting sign up, but that doesn’t seem to deter soliciting. We have a lot a scammers and addicts in my area and I’d say about 9.5 out 10 people who come to my door are not welcome. I generally answer but am also generally not happy when I do, especially when my dog is barking and the person at my door won’t get to the point of their visit when I ask them. I do have security cameras so I can at least see who’s knocking before answering. I’m sure my response would be different if I didn’t live in the city. Neighbors and friends are always welcome though.

Depending on hour, look through window first. If it’s very late, I take a weapon with me.

Unfortunately door to door salespeople, religious evangelists and such made answering the door annoying for me. I love to have friends and neighbors drop by, but I am guilty of feeling embarrassed by the state of the house or myself. 😜

Well, the doorbell ringing was a very rare event in my grandparents’ and parents’ home. Our front door was always open. It’s only later that it became necessary to close that front door and deal with doorbells. To date, I don’t like the shutting out of the world that a closed front door results in, but I guess that’s the world I live in now.

This lack of social spontaneity has now extended to phoning. I have appointments with people to speak on the phone or FaceTime. One member of my family texts first to ask if she can call.

Sure, mostly daylight hours, also when expecting folk. I live in a so far safe neighborhood, little crime.

An interesting take on things! Funny that today after having read this a stranger came to my door.I peeked through curtain, opened wood door and spoke through the glass storm door. Home alone- Asked him to just leave info. I try to be friendly yet cautious!

It is unusual in these days of cell phones for drop ins, but I would always answer the door.

I'm in a condo building so I know most of my neighbors.

Our doors all have these little knockers on them. I silenced mine with a little rubber football because it makes enough noise to wake my neighbors when I leave for work at 4:30 AM.

My bra is off when in my home so I will always shout out or look through the window.
