Beautiful story ...birds have figured in my life so many times as very special messengers...trees too. And thanks Jan for the beautiful picture of this tree and the bird dipping into the flower !
Birds and trees- both so incredibly magical! Thank you for commenting, Martha! 💚
I love Shaiontoni’s illustration, particularly with the squirrel tail popping out, but honestly couldn’t picture the tree itself, so I’m glad you liked the photo as well!
Thanks Martha for your comment. We are s happy you enjoyed the story. Thanks Jan, for posting a picture of the tree along with the story. That was very thoughtful. It's such a giant I didn't know how to fit in the characters proportionately with the whole enormous tree. They would have been too tiny :D
yes - the size of the tree! I wanted a photo of the whole tree but because of the size, the photos are all taken at such a distance that I don't think they do justice. So I settled for one that seemed like a good companion to your illustration, one that focused on the huge flowers. though I'm not sure the size is adequately portrayed in this photo either. Some day I really must see this tree in person!
Jan, thank you so very much for inviting us to contribute. We both love your writing, and it is a pleasure and an honour to be featured on Finding Home.
Your story this morning is todays story of America. The Jan. 6th Committee is post storm, the sky has not fallen, we will soon rejoice and embrace a risen America. There is much to repair, but not despair. How appropriate is it this morning, the Committee will bring us forward, slowly but surely, 😅
Oh Phil, thank you for this comment! I, too, felt Shaiontoni and Rohini's story was perfectly timed and spoke so directly to our current predicament here in the States. Much to repair but not despair. We can get through this if we work together. This is our home.
Recipe for young hope:
To a delicious parabolic narrative, add a generous amount of watercolor illustrations.
Stir in slowly some polyglottal versions. Serve to every child (adult). Savor often.

The admiration is mutual, my friends! 🧡
